Ex-offender writes worship song
James' Story
I was just an ordinary guy, earning a living as a singer/entertainer in Scotland, doing Elvis impressions but I hit hard times and some friends suggested a way that I could make some easy money. It sounded like a good idea at the time, just to get me out of trouble and that would be the end of it. So, I did a bit of (drug) couriering... and got caught.
I ended up in prison for 2 years.
An inmate lent me some of his Bible teaching CDs and I became really thirsty for the Word of God. While I was listening to UCB radio one night, I received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. It was an experience I'll never forget, I saw a cloud through my cell bars and the face of Jesus. It brought me to my knees.
The prison had a recording studio and I started writing some songs and was able to use the studio. People thought I'd gone "nuts" and was on the verge of a breakdown because I was reading my Bible so much and talking about Jesus. I had to see the prison doctor in the end to prove I was OK!
Before I was a Christian I used to get a bit depressed, but that's totally gone, I had no vision and now I do. My mind has been transformed - renewed, people can see there's something "different" about me now. This is a song I wrote - in my cell - based on the book: The Divine Exchange by Derek Prince. It's just been recorded as part of an album.
